Markers, Signage and Cemeteries

Travis County historical markers and signage is conveniently available via the Historic Marker Database Organization (HMDB.ORG). HMDB is a grass roots, self-directed group of volunteers that log historical markers worldwide. In current lingo it's a "crowd sourced" manager of markers. It is powerful in that it provides boots on the ground beyond what any "official" state or county organization could reasonably provide: photographs of the marker, accurate lat/long, directions to the marker, and additional information on the marker topic and marker condition, including reports of missing markers.

Once you have the list of marker you will be able to map them with Google Maps, or download as a CSV file. Your page will look this:

In addition to HMDB you may also find these two sites useful:

• Texas Historical Makers -- link will take you to Travis County markers but there are markers available for the whole state. Markers are listed in alphabetical order. Excellent site!
  

• Waymarking - you'll need to search on a topic like "Hornsby" near "Austin, Texas". Also provides a map of items meeting your search criteria.
