HMDB.ORG

Historic Marker Database Organization (HMDB.ORG) is a grass roots, self-directed group of volunteers that log historical markers worldwide. In current lingo it's a "crowd sourced" manager of markers. It is powerful in that it provides boots on the ground beyond what any "official" state or county organization could reasonably provide: photographs of the marker, accurate lat/long, and additional information on the marker topic and marker itself (including missing markers).

As a volunteer for HMDB.ORG there are a number of posts that feature a series of historic markers based on a common theme that can be mapped. The ability to map these series is useful in illustrating the route of old trails.These series will often cover markers outside of Travis County and even beyond Texas.
